The aim of our association is to promote Welsh Ponies and Cobs (Sections A, B, C, D and Part-Breds) in Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and Dorset.  For membership application form please CLICK HERE.

2019 SUBSCRIPTIONS ARE DUE ON 1 JANUARY  The subscriptions rates are £15.00 for a full member plus £3 for each family member.  Remember that to take advantage of reduced rates for SWA show entry fees you must be a fully paid up member before you enter the show and renew your membership before 31 March or if you are new member have paid your subscription before entering.  DO NOT LEAVE UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO PAY YOUR SUBSCRIPTION AT THE SHOW.    For a Bankers order form please CLICK HERE. Please note that you can now enter online through Showing Scene for some of our shows.  A list of of the SWA fully paid up 2019 members have been loaded onto our section of the site which is not in the public domain.  The list only contains the members name and email address so that they will be able to claim the reduced entry fees.  An email has been sent out by Showing Scene to all those 2019 members where we have their email addresses to confirm that you will be able to enter the relevant SWA shows at the reduced rates.

WPCS 2019 JOURNAL  The WPCS 2019 Journal has be sent out to all members.  Unfortunately you will notice that the SWA report is not included although a hard copy and email was sent to the office on 20 October 2018.  The WPCS confirm that they did receive the report but it had been misfiled. They offer their profuse apologies and will post the report on their website.



Sunday 23 June 2019, SWA Annual Silver Medal Show, Waterside Field, Powderham Castle, Nr Exeter, Devon.  Please note we have been allowed to award WPCS Silver Medals as 2019 is the Association's 50th Anniversary.  The Main, Unaffliated Ring and Dog Show Schedules are now available to download from the Show Schedule page.   PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO ILL HEALTH MR E P PUGH will not be able to judge the in hand Section C & D and Open ridden classes.  We wish him a speedy recovery.  We are very pleased to announce that Miss Danielle Everitt of the Dryfal Stud has accepted the appointment to judge the In Hand Section Cs & Ds and the NPS Open Ridden classes. 

Unfortunately our Section B Judge, Mrs Gillian Sells has had a relapse and very much regrets she is now unable to undertake her judging commitment at our Show.  However MR DAVID PUTTOCK (BALLAN STUD) HAS VERY KINDLY STEPPED IN.

Please note that the caterers will be Jaspers Event Caterers.

There is NO requirement to have a equine flu vaccination at the show's venue,  see Page 4 in the schedule.


Sunday 14 July celebration of the Associations 50th Anniversary - a hog roast and a gymkhana but with a difference no equines just humans!!!  PLEASE return a completed reply slip, one was enclosed with the Spring Newsletter, if you are coming so that we know how many people we have to cater for!!

COMPETITIONS - 1st November 2018 to 31st October 2019

In Hand and Performance Competitions and Young Adult In Hand Points Competition 2018/19. The organisers for 2018/19 are - In Hand Points Competition - Sue Hardy and Performance Points Competition - We are pleased to announce that as a result of Sara Glazebrook's resignation the new Competition Organiser is Anna Richards who is no stranger to running this competition.  Many thanks to the other members who offered to take over this competition.   We thank Sara for all the work that she has done for the SWA.  The entry forms and rules can now be downloaded from the Competition and Show schedule page.

The Young Adult In Hand Points Competition 2018/19     A points competition for members aged between 16 and 25 years of age which is based on a points scheme similar to the In Hand Competition.  There was an entry form enclosed with the SWA Newsletter.  No entry fee.  For more details or and an entry form please contact the organiser Sue Hardy or download the entry form and rules from the Competition and Show schedule page.  


Sunday 2 June 2019 -  Young Judges Training & Assessment.  This year the ponies that will be used at the Final will be Section Cs.  We held a very sucessful day with the judges, Justin Davis & Heidi Bennett giving the candidiates plenty of advice and tips during the briefing and training sessions.  Our grateful thanks go to them and to the organiser Jess Talbot, the owners and handlers of the ponies used in the training and assessment and to Sarum for the use of their facilities and providing and lovely lunch for everyone.  For a full report and photos please CLICK HERE.

SWA NEWSLETTER  The South West Association of the Welsh Pony and Cob Society is looking for interesting stories, news, photos (own copyright ) etc  for there  newsletters. Will members wishing to contribute please send items of interest to


          This is an appeal for anyone who has ever won a SWA cup or trophy to look and see if they have still got it, we are missing a few cups and in spite of the signed receipts accepting full responsibility whilst in their care, people deny still having them.   Before going to the expense of replacing these missing cups, we would ask everyone to check extra carefully.   If you find you do have one of the SWA’s cups please return it to a committee member or the relevant show secretary.   We intend to start a list of people who have not returned cups and they will not be allowed to take any in the future and we may publish in the Spring Newsletter a list of those cups for which we have receipts but which the people who signed for them deny having.    PLEASE CONTACT  Hon.
