2019 SUBSCRIPTIONS ARE DUE ON 1 JANUARY.   The subscriptions rates are £15.00 for a full member plus £3 for each family member.  Remember that to take advantage of reduced rates for SWA show entry fees you must be a fully paid up member before you enter the show and renew your membership before 31 March or if you are new member have paid your subscription before entering.  DO NOT LEAVE UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO PAY YOUR SUBSCRIPTION AT THE SHOW.    For a Bankers order form please CLICK HERE. WPCS AGM 2019: Please note that the AGM next year will be held a week earlier that in previous years on 30 March 2019 at the Crowne Plaze Hotel, Glasgow.

WPCS 2018 REGISTRATIONS - The Society has just announced that under new DEFRA regulations all registration forms must be received by the Society by 30 November 2018.

Sunday 10 March 2019, SWA Pre Season Practice Show, The World Horse Welfare,  Glenda Spooner Farm, Brincil Hill, Kingsdon, Somerton, Somerset TA11 7LA

April date to be confirmed-  Young Judges Training & Assessment.  This year the ponies that will be used for the assesment and our training will be Section Cs.  Three representatives will be selected to represent the SWA in the National Finals at Three Counties Showground, Malvern In August.  Any young people who would like to take part but do not want to be considered for the final will be very welcome and whilst it is aimed at those aged between 10 and 21 years, anyone younger is also welcome to come along and take part.

Sunday 14 April 2019, SWA Open Spring Show with WPCS Bronze Medals, NPS Ridden & WHP qualifiers & CHAPS qualifiers.  Chard Equestrian Showground, Higher Purtington, Chard Somerset.

Sunday 23 June 2019, SWA Annual Bronze Medal Show, Waterside Field, Powderham Castle, Nr Exeter, Devon.  Please note we have applied for Silver Medals as 2019 is the the Association's 50th Anniversary.

June or July date to be decided celebration of the Associations 50th Anniversary - moght be a hog roast or similar and maybe a gymkhana but with a difference no equines just humans!!!

The Young Adult In Hand Points Competition 2018/19     A points competition for members aged between 16 and 25 years of age which is based on a points scheme similar to the In Hand Competition.  There was an entry form enclosed with the SWA Newsletter.  No entry fee.  For more details or an entry form please contact the Organiser Sue Hardy.  


Sunday 9 December - Christmas Lunch and Awards for Performance Competition, In Hand Competition and Young Adult Handler of the Year.   Gipsy Hill Hotel, Gipsy Hill Lane, Monkerton Exeter EX1 3RN .   Members and their families gathered  at the Gypsy Hill Hotel for the awards presentation  before the Christmas Lunch. The In Hand Competition Supreme Champion was the Welsh Part Bred BROOKVALE PRINCE GEORGE and Reserve Supreme and Champion Owner Bred another Welsh Part Bred TRENLEYGROVE RUBY TUESDAY.  For the full results please CLICK HERE.  The Performance Competition Supreme Champion was The Section A EARLSMEADOW KARA'S ADAM and the Reserve Supreme Champion the Section B STRAWBERRYFIELDS PRIME SPIRIT for the full results please CLICK HERE.  The 2017/18 SWA Young Adult In Hand Competition Champion was SAMANTHA MACKAILL who unfortunately was unable to attend the presententaion.

The presentations were followed by Christmas lunch.  The 'Guess the number of horsey treats in the Tub' competition was won by Cariline Wilkins (senior) and Sklya Clements (junior).  The very popular pipe cleaner competition was judged by Lydia Forrester and what a difficult job she had.  They were amazing, we have so many talented members!!  the winners were Claire Rafferty (senior) and Molly Strange (junior).  Many thanks to Top Spec for giving us a the feed voucher for the raffle.

SATURDAY 24 November - Grand Auction in Aid of SWA, Cedar Suite, Gipsy Hill Hotel, Gipsy Hill Lane, Monkerton, Exeter EX1 3RN  We had a lovely social evening which everyone enjoyed whilst raising money for the Association.  We sold all the lots except for one and another one that did not reach the reserve.  We are sharing the proceeds from two of the lots with the Charity SEND A COW.  Many thanks to all those that attended and to everyone that generously donated items.

Sunday 18 November - SWA WPCS Bronze Medal & Ridden Show for Welsh & Non Welsh.  Also the final will be held for the SWA Young Handler of the Year 2018.  Secretary: Mrs Judy Pring, Lane End Cottage, North Lane, Sampford Arundel, Wellington, Somerset TA 9QZ.  A very, very successful Show and judging by the Facebook comments very popular and enjoyed by all!!  Please CLICK HERE here for the full results.

Sunday 18 November - SWA Young Handler of the Year Champion 2018.  A large class of young handlers in the morning was judged Mr John Ford.  the final was judges by Mrs Annie Edwards who found her Champion Amelia O'Connor from  the 12 - 16 year old class and the Reserve was Lillie Windsor-Horne  winner of the 7 to 11 year old class.

Saturday 3 November - Annual General Meeting, 2pm Garden Room, Gipsy Hill Hotel, Gopsy Hill Lane, Monkerton, Exeter EX1 3RN  Guest Speaker: Mrs Elizabeth Russell, Gartconnel Stud, President of the Welsh Pony & Cob Society.  After the AGM meeting our current WPCS President gave a very interesting talk and powerpoint presentation not only about the main society but also about the history of Elizabeth's and her late husband's Section A Stud - The Gartconnel Stud.  Elizabeth finished her talk by telling us about her experiences  judging at the first Show of the Welsh Pony & Cob Society of Africa held in South Africa.

13 - 16 September Annual Stud Visit - North Wales.  We havd a very enjoyable few days visiting Welsh Pony & Cob Studs in North Wales.  We saw some lovely ponies at every stud - Danash, Newgap, Islyn, Arad, Eyarth, Hilin Degla and Ryhd-y-Felin.  A full report will be included in the Autumn Newsletter.  Some photos will be posted onto our Facebook page later.  Very many thanks to all the studowners not only for showing us some wonderful ponies but also providing us with delicious sanwiches, cakes etc and refreshments!

Sunday 19 August 2018 Kernow Bronze Medal Show, Chiverton Equestrian Centre, Silverwell, Blackwater, Nr Truro TR4 7QN.   Another successful Show.  Many thanks to Maxine Ingham for organising this show and to the judges, stewards and helpers.           This is an appeal for anyone who has ever won a SWA cup or trophy to look and see if they have still got it, we are missing a few cups and in spite of the signed receipts accepting full responsibility whilst in their care, people deny still having them.   Before going to the expense of replacing these missing cups, we would ask everyone to check extra carefully.   If you find you do have one of the SWA’s cups please return it to a committee member or the relevant show secretary.   We intend to start a list of people who have not returned cups and they will not be allowed to take any in the future and we may publish in the Spring Newsletter a list of those cups for which we have receipts but which the people who signed for them deny having.    PLEASE CONTACT  Hon.
