Our young members are amazing and continue to do us proud!  The Young Judges Competition at Malvern was hotly contested as normal and our team did not disappoint us.  They were in the two biggest classes,  Isabel Glazebrook won the 10 to 13 year old class and won a WPCS GOLD MEDAL!!!  This was the first year that the Society had awarded GOLD Medals to the winners.  Arabella Lawrence was second to Issy.  Emily Chubb was in the 14 to 18 year old class and as they only announce the first three we do not know whereabouts she was placed but I am sure she was near the top  Many thanks to the team coach Jess Talbot and to Vicky Stephens & Ian Jones of the Annandale Stud and Steve Stella Hayes, Brockabye Stud for allowing the team to visits their studs and showing them Section Bs and helping with their training.  See photo above.

Many congratulations to Brandon Joyner who not only won his Senior Young Handler class under judge Judith Reed but went onto to win the Championship under David Davies of the Ceulan Stud.  Brandon has been Reserve Champion several times in the past and was finally awarded the well deserved Championship.  The classes are sponsored by Brian & Janice Foster who presented the prizes.  Brandon was also interviewed by Nicola Davies.  Photgraphs have been posted on our Facebook Page

13 - 16 September Annual Stud Visit - North Wales.  We havd a very enjoyable few days visiting Welsh Pony & Cob Studs in North Wales.  We saw some lovely ponies at every stud - Danash, Newgap, Islyn, Arad, Eyarth, Hilin Degla and Ryhd-y-Felin.  A full report will be included in the Autumn Newsletter.  Some photos will be posted onto our Facebook page later.  Very many thanks to all the stusowners not only for showing us some wonderful ponies but also providing us with delicious sanwiches, cakes etc and refreshments!

Sunday 19 August 2018 Kernow Bronze Medal Show, Chiverton Equestrian Centre, Silverwell, Blackwater, Nr Truro TR4 7QN.   Another successful Show.  Many thanks to Maxine Ingham for organising this show and to the judges, stewards and helpers. There are lots of posts on Facebook from competitors commenting on what a lovely show it was.  The results and photos will be posted here as soon as they are received!

Christopher Watson - We have received very sad news that Chris Watson died early on Saturday morning 16 June.  Chris always help steward at the Annual Medal Show for us and we used to hold our committee meetings at Chris & Belinda's house.  Chris also used to accompany Belinda on the SWA Autumn Stud visits.  We shall miss him!  Chris and Belinda are retired dairy farmers having for many years bred and milked top quality Guernsey cows.  They showed the cattle at county level even the Royal Welsh and were very successful.  Chris spent many years on the Guernsey Society council and was President representing the Society at International meetings.  Chris was also a keen follower of cricket and rugby!  The family enjoyed hunting, eventing and showing and have always had horses, Belinda breeding Section Cs & Ds and Welsh Part Breds under the Tollerhayes prefix.

The funeral/service of thanksgiving will be held at 1230 hrs at Dunchideock Church on Thursday 28 June and there will be refreshments afterwards at Exeter Racecourse.

Sunday15 April 2018 Open Spring Show, Chard Equestrian  Showground, Somerset.  A very wet, cold and windy day, but inspite of the weather everyone appeared to have a good day.  Thank goodness the new permament building was ready for use so the Secretary's Office, Toilets and Cafe were all in there.  The cafe had a very large seating area with several leather reclining sofas as well as table and chairs overlooking the outdoor arena.  Many thanks to all the judges & stewards, Eve Holt on the PA system, Sara Glazebrook handling entries etc with the Show Secretary Sue Hardy.  They all deserve medals for working so hard all day.

SWA NEWSLETTER  The South West Association of the Welsh Pony and Cob Society is looking for interesting stories, news, photos (own copyright ) etc  for there  newsletters. Will members wishing to contribute please send items of interest to janhardy.briarth@btinternet.com

This is an appeal for anyone who has ever won a SWA cup or trophy to look and see if they have still got it, we are missing a few cups and in spite of the signed receipts accepting full responsibility whilst in their care, people deny still having them.   Before going to the expense of replacing these missing cups, we would ask everyone to check extra carefully.   If you find you do have one of the SWA’s cups please return it to a committee member or the relevant show secretary.   We intend to start a list of people who have not returned cups and they will not be allowed to take any in the future and we may publish in the Spring Newsletter a list of those cups for which we have receipts but which the people who signed for them deny having.    PLEASE CONTACT  Hon.
